I switched from my older Styrofoam incubators to these for quail production. I saw my hatch rates go from 70% to about 85% and am very happy. With the digital settings and Temp/Humidity monitors built in these things are awesome for the money. Also, my older incubators would only hold 120 eggs in the turners, if you order the Quail Egg turner for these they will hold 154 eggs. I now have 4 of these, I use 3 with turners and the 4th I have no turner and move the eggs from the one with the turner ...I switched from my older Styrofoam incubators to these for quail production. I now have 4 of these, I use 3 with turners and the 4th I have no turner and move the eggs from the one with the turner to that one on day 18 for hatching and keep the humidity on that one at 70%. Also, learned to keep these in the Styrofoam packaging they come in and the temp stays steady, without it the temp fluctuates to much. Lastly, you must keep them in an air conditioned or heated room depending on time of year and the room temperature must be kept between 72-76 degrees. Keep the internal humidity of these units at 50-55% for first 18 days then raise to 70% for last 4-5 days - No matter what you do, once they eggs start hatching DO NOT open the lid. The baby chicks are just fine in the incubator for 48 hours. After 48 hours of first hatch remove the chicks, throw away egg shells and any unhatched eggs, wipe out the plastic with clorox wipes and your ready for for the next batch. With my method I can incubate 462 quail eggs at a time. I plan to add 4 more for next year.
I waited until I ran my first cycle before writing a review. The end result is 24 eggs placed and 24 hatched for a 100% hatch rate. (Chicken eggs)
Was extremely easy to keep humidity right and temp was never a problem. Add 3 bucks for a warntey and it can't be beat for the price.
I highly recommend this for even the newest to hatching.
I have two of these and they do all that they r suppose to. My hatch rate is 98% which is really good for the price i pay for this. I recommend this item to all of my extended family, which is why i'm purchasing this item again. They have't had any success with the expensive units they've purchased else where and have pretty much given up hope of incubating eggs. I usually help them set these up and give a short tutorial on how to use these and handle them. They will break if not handled or used ...I have two of these and they do all that they r suppose to. I usually help them set these up and give a short tutorial on how to use these and handle them. They will break if not handled or used correctly, also don't trust the temp gage, use a seperate measuring system for the most accurate reading. If your depending on the unit to do all the work you will not have a good hatch rate.
Was very hesitant to buy this at the price. But have to say it is worth the money. The directions for use could be better, they really do not give you operating instructions. As soon as I plugged it in the temps were preset. Keeps awesome temp. Great for a small hatch, no need to fire up my big incubator. Well worth the money.
I really like this product. I left the Styrofoam on the bottom half for more insulation. I didn't use the top half of the Styrofoam as it would block the air holes and I wouldn't be able to monitor the temp and humidity at a glance without lifting the lid, however, I think I will cut out a little in those two areas and see how it works. The only problem I can see, is the instructions are hard to understand. Just put a cup of water in, keep the humidity around 55 (that is what mine set naturall ...I really like this product. The only problem I can see, is the instructions are hard to understand. Just put a cup of water in, keep the humidity around 55 (that is what mine set naturally to, I think,), set the heat on 37.7 Celsius, since it doesn't have Fahrenheit, and check occasionally. On the 18th day, unplug the wires and it will quit turning the eggs or put the egg holding side of an egg carton on top of the egg rack and put the 18 day eggs in it. That way you can keep putting eggs in from various days. I am buying another today as a backup, just in case. I have owned about a month and a half and next week will get my second batch of chickies hatched. Pleased as pudding.
Got this baby in and hooked it up. Turned it on, nothing.. Was very upset at first, decided to get the voltmeter out to figure out what was going on. Upon inspection with the voltmeter I determined that even though the power cord had no visible marks the neutral wire was broken somewhere. Found an old computer monitor cord lying around and wouldn't you know it it's the same kind of plug (what luck) so I plugged the cord I found into it and it runs like a champ!!! So if you decide to order and it doesn't work before you waste your time sending it back get out the voltmeter and check the cord or if you have a spare monitor cord like I did just plug it in and see if it works.
